Technical Direction – Our Side
Helyx was the technical director for this 2017 production by the Movement Alliance Project (then called Media Mobilizing Project). Responsibilities included developing and implementing raw media management protocols, editing workflows, and roundtripping to and from Final Cut X and DaVinci Resolve for color and sound correction.
“Our Side follows local residents staging a play about the historically Black community of Atlantic City. From bustling streets to broken promises, from discrimination to resiliency, we follow the daily lives of cast members and learn about their struggles to give their city a better future and honor its past. Coming together to perform their history helps them imagine a better future for their community. Based on the book, Growing up in the Other Atlantic City: Wash’s and the Northside, by Turiya S.A. Raheem, the film includes theatrical, interview, and archival footage, bringing to life the pride and struggle that made the Northside a self-sustaining community and epicenter of Black culture.”
